THE GHANA Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially commenced the licensing of Service Providers within the country’s gold trading sector, starting today, Wednesday, 23 April, 2025.
In a press statement released by Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer at GoldBod, it was announced that individuals aged 18 and above, as well as fully Ghanaian-owned companies, are eligible to apply for licenses. Applications can be submitted either online at goldbod.gov.gh or physically at the GoldBod licensing office in Accra.

The available licenses immediately up for application include:
● Aggregator License
● Self-financing Aggregator License
● Buyer License (Tier 2)
● Buyer License (Tier 1)
GoldBod further noted that other key licenses – including Refining, Smelting, Fabrication, Storage, Transportation and Importation Licenses – will open for application starting July 2025.
In line with ongoing reforms to streamline and regulate Ghana’s gold sector, GoldBod reiterated its earlier directive for all foreign entities to exit the local gold trading market by 30 April, 2025. Any breach of this order will be treated as an offense under the newly enacted Ghana GoldBod Act, 2025 (Act 1140). However, foreigners still have the option to apply to GoldBod to offtake gold directly.
The Board also reminded all players in the gold trading space to strictly buy and sell gold at the official Bank of Ghana (BoG) Reference Rate, which can be found at bog.gov.gh.
GoldBod emphasized its commitment to restructuring the gold sector for greater national benefit and called on all stakeholders and the general public to fully cooperate and engage through feedback.
