IN A RECENT STATEMENT, President Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo sparked controversy by rejecting the notion that Ghana was founded by one person. However, this assertion is a misinterpretation of history.
The recognition of Ɔsagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, as the founder of Ghana, does not imply that he single- handedly built the nation. Rather, it acknowledges his pivotal role as the main leader who spearheaded the country’s struggle for independence.
President Akufo-Addo’s attempt to downplay Nkrumah’s significance appears to be a misguided effort to rebrand his family’s historical contributions. While his family did play a role in the independence movement, it is essential to acknowledge Nkrumah’s paramount leadership.
Nkrumah’s legacy is indelibly etched in the annals of Ghana’s history.
