GREATER ACCRA Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Organiser, Mrs Felicia Mekpoi Bortey joined the women around the Globe to celebrate International Women’s Day.
In a statement issued in Accra, Mrs. Mekpoi Bortey indicated that, “on behalf of the Greater Accra Regional Women’s wing of the NDC and on my own behalf, I wish to join with the women around the world, especially those in Ghana to yet again observe and celebrate International Women’s Day, 2018”.
Mrs Mekpoi Bortey said women have made and continued to make strides in all facets of human endeavour and in most countries of the world for centuries; and Ghana is no exception to this trend.
This however, epitomised the theme for this year’s celebration, “Invest in women: Accelerate progress”, she added.
The Greater Accra Regional NDC Women’s Organiser stressed that the Ghanaian women continue to progress and distinguish themselves in political, social and economic life.

They continue to make an immeasurable and invaluable contribution for the progress of their families.
For this, I extend my best wishes to these heroines, the galant women of the NDC party, especially Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Running Mate to President John mahama for 2024 election, former First Lady Lordina Mahama, Madam Valerie Sawyer, Former Deputy Chief of Staff and every Ghanaian woman and hope that on this day due recognition would be given to your efforts, Mrs. Mekpoi Bortey posited.
“…..I am also mindful of the fact that despite the impressive gains made by women internationally and locally, there remains many challenges that hinder the potential and full development of women and the safeguarding of their dignity”, she noted.
To this, she hoped that the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social protection will on this International Women’s Day, dispassionately examine these challenges which confront women in their quest for greater equality and respect in society.
She believes that such an examination will help to highlight the many hurdles that women face and will call for more focused and nuanced strategies to be developed so as to help women overcome the obstacles they face.
Mekpoi Bortey pleaded that as they celebrate the tremendous strides made by women, as they hail their bravery and courage, celebrate their achievements and respect their choices, there is the need to also recognise that there remains much work to be done in the advancement of equal rights and increased dignity for the women.
On this special day dedicated to the women of the world, the NDC Women’s Organiser appealed that they join hands in saluting their achievements. “Let us also join hearts in our continued pursuit of their equality and betterment for all women worldwide”, she charged.
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY!
