THE FOUNDER and President of the Diaspora Progressive Movement (DPM) in the United States of America, Dr. Lawrence Appiah has averred that anytime there were a free and transparent elections in Ghana the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins.

FIFI FIAVI KWETEY, THE NDC GENERAL SECRETARY.

Dr. Appiah cited other national elections including the just ended Assin North by-election, where he indicated that the election was conducted in a fairly and transparent manner, and the NDC beat the NPP to it by more than 4,000 votes as compared to the 2020 elections. “I suspected that in 2020, some of Hon James Gyakye Quayson’s votes were added to that of the Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo votes”, he said.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by Nana Akufo-Addo deployed huge logistics to Assin North Constituency in addition to an amount of about Ghc59, 400, 000 just to buy votes from the people. Meanwhile, the country’s economy is on its knees, and resulting in serious hardship all over Ghana.

According to him, if the NDC says any time the Electoral Commission (EC) would conduct free, fair and transparent elections, they will beat the NPP hands down, the party would not be wrong. When Free and fair elections were held in Assin North despite the amount of Ghc59, 400, 000 to buy votes, the NDC won and the figures are out there to show, DPM President posited.

He noted in his statement to Nnationaltymes.com that the EC has been able to conduct two free, fair and transparent elections; and when the NDC was praising them, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were having problems with that. So the NDC should not give credit to those who deserve those credits? Dr. Appiah quizzes.

He opined that “let the NPP know that the NDC is praising the EC, not because they won Assin North by-election; but they are praising the EC because it conducted a free, fair and transparent elections in Assin North. So long as the EC behaves normal, the NDC will win the 2024 Presidential elections and will hold the majority seats in parliament”, Dr. Appiah prophesized.

In a related development, the President of Diaspora Progress Movement (DPM) also argued that no one could tell the NPP collated results at the Assin North by-election, before the EC announced the final figures; “…isn’t this same NPP, who could tell us about the National figures in two hours after polls closed, so what happened at Assin North?”, he enquired.

Dr. Lawrence Appiah cited the NPP announced their figures in Kumawu by-election, an hour after polls closed and challenged the NDC to announce theirs. He said the NPP made a big deal out of this, although Sammy Gyamfi of the NDC and his team came out to say the NDC results didn’t matter.

He noted that the NPP kept telling Ghanaians that the NDC could not collate their results; but when it happened to them in Assin North and they could not collate their results, they were now blaming the NDC. “Their problem was why should NDC be praising the EC for a free, fair and transparent election; do you see the evil political party Ghanaians are dealing with?”, Dr. Appiah retorted.

The people of Assin North retained the governing Npp persecuted NDC Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. James Gyakye Quayson with 17, 245 votes given 57.56% to beat the NPP candidate, Charles Opoku who had 12, 630 representing 42.15% and the NPP planted parliamentary candidate through their allied, LPG, Bernice Sefanu Enyonam who got 87 votes representing 0.29%.

The NPP who are not happy with the people of Assin North for retaining the man, Joe Quayson, their (NPP) government is still using the Court to harass him.
