The Ghana Flying Disc Association (GFDA) has over the weekend hosted an exhibition game at the University of Ghana, Legon.
The programme was part of efforts aimed at introducing the game to the University community. The exhibition game involved students from the University of Ghana, members of the Social Disc-Tance Ultimate Club, athletes from the La 1st Win Ultimate Club, and GFDA management members.
As part of the programme, Ghana Flying Disc Association (GFDA) volunteer Coach and a teacher at Lincoln Community, USA, Mr. Troy Duffield took student-athletes through some basics of the Ultimate Frisbeegameincluding the tactics of play for both defense and offense as wel as the rules.
The event was highly patronized by the students at the University of Ghana Legon. The programme which was successful, witnessed a huge number of female participants.
The GFDA looks forward to working with the leadership of the University of Ghana Sports Directorate in the coming months to organize a structured workshop for the sports representatives within the various halls.
In a brief remarks, Mr. Desmond Mantey, President of the GFDA, hinted that the organization is looking forward to creating both local and international partnership for student athletes to exhibit their skills in disc sports and win laurels for mother Ghana.
He further indicated that the GFDA looks forward to promoting the game in other Universities across Ghana and it was a great privilege for the students of the University to be pacesetters in the development of the game among Universities in Ghana. Mr. Mantey further hinted that sports has a strong correlation with academic performance and as such students should endeavour to keep active and engage in sports a tall times.
Mr. Peter Asiedu, Vice President of the GFDA encouraged the students especially girls to take disc sports seriously since it has the potential to nurture essential soft skills like leadership, honesty, accountability and peaceful coexistence.
The GFDA is actively working to promote disc sports in other sectors of the public and it is the fervent hope of the organization that this event will arouse interest and attract many more youth to take up disc sport games.
