THE CHIEFS and people of Ayawaso East Municipal (AEM) have commended the Municipal Chief Executive Officer and her officers for enlightening them on the level of development brought to the area.

HAJIA SELMA MOHAMMED ADAMS SANI-KUTA, MCE OF AYAWASO EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY, GREATER ACCRA REGION.

Some of the people told Nationaltymes.com in an interview on the sideline of the meeting organised by the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly (AEMA), that they are not aware the assembly has done a lot in the municipality in last 5 years.

The Assembly took the people through various projects to be informed the work that had been done and others that are on-going. The fully packed town hall meeting indicated the rehabilitated 3-unit Kindergarten block with ancillary facility at Islamic Training Institute in 2018.

In the following years, the Assembly under the direction of the MCE, Hajia Selma Mohammed Adams Sani-Kuta constructed a 3 storey 9 unit classroom block with ancillary facility at Flag-staff House Basic school in 2019. And also rehabilitated a 2 storey 12 unit classroom block for Kanda cluster of schools, block 3 and 5, in 2020.

Adding, a 12 seater water-closet facility was also constructed at 37 Military Hospital Basic School in 2019.

The Assembly procured about 4, 777 various desks including teachers’ chairs and tables in addition to desks from the Ministry of Education to beef-up desks, teachers’ chairs and tables in the schools within the municipality.

The Assembly shows commitment to complete a 6 unit classroom block project which is at the foundation level and is expected to be completed soon alongside other on-going projects for more classrooms for students in-take.

For healthcare, the Assembly constructed a 3-storey facility for Nima Government Polyclinic, followed by a rehabilitation works on children’s and recovery ward of the polyclinic. This and many other things are being done and others are sturdily going on to expand needed facilities in the municipality.

AEMA engaged the services of some sanitation institutions who, according to the Assembly are doing well by always sweeping the streets and doing house-to-house refuse collection.

It was noted that sanitation has been one of the challenges the Assembly is facing; inview of this, the MCE and her officers take the sanitation issue as one of their main focus to solving it.

In her welcome address, Hajia Selma Sani-Kuta indicated that since the Assembly was inaugurated about 5 years ago, they tried to solve at least two-thirds problems of the municipality. To that, they have implemented several initiatives which makes future looks bright.

These initiatives span from education enhancement, Infrastructure development, Healthcare Access and Environmental Conservation amongst others.

She hinted the Town Hall meeting that her Assembly is a beneficiary of the proposed Greater Accra Integrated Development Project, which seeks to support most vulnerable communities risk to flooding. She said this would be done through participatory community upgrading.
