PRESIDENT ADDO Danquah Akufo-Addo has turned the presidency into a centre for serious criminal activities to enrich themselves in diverse ways after creating economic hardship for the citizenry in Ghana.
The largest opposition National DemocraticCongress (NDC) lamented that the continuous naming of President Akufo-Addo and his Vice-President Dr. Mahamoudu Bawumia in all manner of bribe-taking syndicates must be a cause for concern for every patriotic Ghanaian who cares about the image of the Presidency.
At the press conference on the “Moment of Truth Series” in Accra, the NDC National Communications Officer, Lawyer Sammy Gyemfi posited that Al Jazeera’s earth-shaking findings strengthens the justifiable concerns raised about the NPP government opaque Gold-for-Oil deal which many demand transparency and accountability.
According to Lawyer Sammy Gyemfi at the NDC Headquarters presser, the party sighted an undercover investigative work that was recently aired by international news network, Al Jazeera, involving Mr. Akufo-Addo and his allies.
He revealed that one tycoon, Alistair Mathias is a notorious money laundering schemer and gold mafia for corrupt African leaders; and a close friend of President Akufo-Addo.
Lawyer Gyamfi hinted that Mathias confessed he smuggles a ton of gold with a face value of $40 million from Ghana every month. This goes on with the active collusion of President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Bawumia and high-ranking members of the NPP government.
Lawyer Gyamfi indicated that this deliberate thievery against Ghana was also in collaboration with one Kamlesh Pattni, an Indian man based in Kenya. Kamlesh Pattni was described as the grandmaster of the Gold Mafia. And their thievery add to a litany of similar acts of grand corruption and collusion involving the President Akufo-Addo and his cohorts.
To this effect, the NDC was of the believe that the Gold for Oil deal by this Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP Government was a scam, and a strategy to sell their (NPP) illegal gold gotten from Galamsey.
The largest opposition NDC wants proper disclosure of the ongoing Gold for Oil. The party further called for parliamentary bi-partisan probe into this activities of smuggled gold by Alistair Marthias, Kamlesh Pattni and the Presidency.
In a related development, the NDC further stated that Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo’s claim of fighting galamsey was scam ever perpetrated on Ghanaians.
The party indicated that the NDC has been vindicated by the report authored by former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng an appointee of the President, confirming the NDC constant calls that the galamsey fighting was fake under the watch of President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia led NPP government.
Galamsey activities by the NPP government officials under supervision of President Akufo-Addo has led to the pollution of the Birim River, Ankobra river and other river bodies which used to be a major source of drinking water for millions of Ghanaians.
According to Lawyer Sammy Gyemfi, there has never been any genuine attempt to fight galamsey by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government. Adding that the former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation’s report shows clearly that the so-called fight against galamsey was a charade calculated to enable top government and NPP functionaries to appropriate and take over the elicit galamsey trading.
Today it has been established by the former Minister’s damning report that the NDC’s claim that the government was never determined to fight illegal mining was factual.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng who is a former Chairman of the now defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, in his report written to President Akufo-Addo, accused some stalwarts of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia led government of interfering in illegal small-scale mining fight or being engaged in galamsey.
