THE NANA AKUFO-ADDO led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration is in cahoot with Ghana’s current Electoral Commissioners to throw away the 2020 voter’s register for a new one prior to 2024 general elections.
The real smaller political parties in Ghana under banner of “Third Force Alliance (TFA)” made the disclosure at a press briefing in Accra on March 16, 2023. For their plans, the Electoral Commission (EC) Boss, Jean Adukwei Mensah proposed a new Constitutional Instrument (C.l.).
TFA hinted the media that this cunning plans of the EC and NPP were to create avenue for someone to challenge the validity of the current voter’s register when the C.I. becomes law.
Already, the EC Boss, Jean Mensah had started condemning the current voter’s register compiled under COVID-19 with all the dangers prior to 2020 general elections, where she was saying this register also contains names of people who registered through other means other than Ghana-ECOWAS Card.
According to Awudu Ishaq, Convenor of Third Force Alliance and National Communications Secretary of People’s National Convention (PNC) this fiendish intent of the EC led Jean Mensah is wickedness and mischief set-up ever at the Electoral Commission.
The EC which used to be an Independent institution under the two previous bosses over years, today appears to now be like a Ministry of Elections under the supervision of President Akufo-Addo in the last 6 years, with Jean Mensah and Dr. Bosman Asare as the Minister and Deputy Minister.
This and other reasons the TFA called on the MPs in Parliament especially the Minority to use all means possible to stop and reject the laying of the evil intent behind the new C.I. in parliament.
Ishaq further pointed out that TFA studied the new C.I. carefully and realised it is unconstitutional and inimical to the tenets of participatory democracy in Ghana.
He posited saying the plans by EC to expunged the guarantor system in the newly proposed C.I. for the registration is bad. TFA quizzed that “how can EC accept NIA Card procured through the guarantor system as proof of citizenship but will not allow same system for voter registration?”
Third Force Alliance (TFA) briefing the press condemns all the schemes of EC Boss, Jean Adukwei Mensah and her allies in government to deliberately disenfranchise a section of Ghanaians through the new C.I. going into 2024 elections.
They (TFA) cited other institutions like CDD who were also against the new C.I. including the former EC Boss, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan who opined that any attempt to expunge the guarantor system in voter registration is an attempt to deliberately disenfranchise huge number of Ghanaians run up to the 2024 elections.
