The Grassroots of the National Democratic Congress, NDC in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in Accra have opted for one Ekow Acquah as their next Chairman.
Mr. Ekow Acquah, popularly called “Akwala-Nyame” was impressed with the acknowledgement from the grassroots and thanked them for having trust in him, and he promised to contest if he sails through the processes.
Although Ekow noted the party has not given the greenlight for any campaign activities, he indicated that if things go well in his favour he would serve diligently as the next chairman of the Constituency.
As an experienced person, he promised vehicles to each of the 13 NDC ward Coordinators to make party work easier for them if he gets the nod. He also noted it’s high time a constituency like Ayawaso West Wuogon had its own permanent office to ease the burden of struggling to pay rent.
He further indicated that people are willing to support the party in diverse ways but they want to see a selfless leader who would be prepared to move to the grounds to ignite and energize the grassroots.
This is important if vehicles, not motorbikes are given out to each ward Coordinator to ensure they also move and work diligently for the party as there are well-to-do persons who are willing to help.
In an interview with Nationaltymes.com on the sideline of a get-together he organised to release bordorm of the year 20221, Mr. Acquah hinted that the NDC has presented a very good Parliamentary Candidate, PC; but the failure on the part of the Constituency leadership robbed Mr. Dumelo of the chance to represent the people in parliament.
He explained the NPP took advantage of the situation where they wrote on the pink sheets figures to favour them when the NDC people who were in charge and are supposed to be vigilant were rather interested in the pink sheets. This was poor leadership, Acquah lamented.
The grassroots, most of whom are NDC branch executives and ward Coordinators took their turn to address the members on reasons why they thought Mr. Ekow Acquah is the rightfully-ripped person; and they indicated that he was qualified to lead the constituency to harness the parliamentary seat and to maximize the presidential votes in next general elections.
According to them, though looking at the situation in Ayawaso West Wuogon, a radical but intelligent individual in the person of Ekow is needed going into 2024 general elections. He added Mr. Acquah is qualified to take up the chairmanship position for the “Do-Or-Die” operations to snatch the seat.
The NDC lost the seat to the NPP in 1996 and till now they could not snatch it. The seat alludes them admist the higglidy-pigglidy anytime they come close snatching it.
Although, the NDC has not yet started its branch re-organisation, the grassroots who work tirelessly in the last 2020 elections for the party declared their support for the young but energetic man.
They indicated in their speeches that the current chairman, Bismark Aborbi Ayitey has divided them before going into the 2020 elections and this has affected the NDC and the chances of their Parliamentary Candidate, PC, John Sitsope Dumelo.
Ayawaso West Wuogon NDC grassroots further hinted that Ekow brought some of the current Constituency executives including the chairman, Aborbi Ayitey to take up positions. They added saying this time, the Ayawaso West Wuogon NDC needs serious unifier and someone who could energize them to snatch the seat from the NPP.
Lots of NDC gurus who operate on “low-key” in the constituency showed up to offer their support to Ekow as he intends to aspire for the Chairmanship position of the Ayawaso West Wuogon this time around following his hardwork, charisma and unifying spirit as a former youth organiser.
