The Hon. Member of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Madam Rita Naa Odoley Sowah has distributed Jerseys to teams participating in the “Nya Awo Kpakpa Shidaa (Thank You) Gala” in the area.
The eight (8) teams which are from various Electoral Areas within La Dade-Kotopon Municipality, also received a football each in addition to their Jerseys.
A year on this December, the people of La Dade-Kotopon Constituency have voted for the Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, former MCE for the area as their MP.
According to Hon. Naa Odoley Sowah, the on-going gala started last Monday, December 13, 2021 is organised to thank the youth and everyone for helping to catapult her to represent them in Ghana’s 8th parliament.
Hon Naa Odoley Sowah told Nationaltymes.com in an interview that football is a major sports in La and as a lover of the game herself she chose the football over other sports.
She indicated that the football gala would be an annual ritual twice every year – “Nya Awo Kpakpa Football Gala” in every December and Homowo Gala so far as she remains the MP for the people of La.
Honourable added quickly that other lesser note sports such as table tennis; volley ball; basket ball etc. would also be considered in order for those who love them won’t feel rejected.
As a member of Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports and Social Welfare, she pointed out that one of her reason for organising the football Gala was to ensure togetherness to strengthen the peaceful coexistence amongst the people of La irrespective of one’s political colour or tribe or religion.
To this, sports, especially football brings people together, hence the gala to cure any division in La if any. The espectations also was to unearth football talents amongst participating teams.
These eight (8) teams from their Electoral Areas include, Royal Cemetery; East La (Tse-Addo); Kaajaanor; Contonment; Aviation; La Court; Ako Adjei and Selam.
And in the opening match, Royal Cemetery beat East La popularly called Tse-Addo 2 – 0, those saddened Hon Rita who comes from that area, East La.
The matches will come on twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays, and December 15, Selam will take on Aviation at Selam park.
The MP disclosed that the final is expected in January 3, 2022 and the winner takes home a trophy and cash amount whilst the runner up will be given a cash amount.
As everyone is hoping for 2022, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah wished the people of La Dade-Kotopon a happy new year and a blissful Marry Christmas in advance and she asked for God’s blessing and long life for everyone in La.
Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah reiterated that the skills training she promised the people amongst other projects would be carried out with the support of the people of the area.
