National Democratic Congress, NDC National Executive Committee (NEC) member, Alhaji Sherif Abdul-Nasiru has sounded a warning to the Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo led ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his hoodlums any ‘irresponsible’ moves ahead of any elections in the country.
The angry Alhaji Sherif urged the leadership and members of the opposition NDC to look focus in safeguarding the country’s young and vibrant democracy and the future elections in Ghana.
In an interview with Nationaltymes.com in Accra, the business tycoon lamented on the current security set-up to ensure they supress the growth of the practicing young democratic system in the country.
Alhaji Sherif pointed out that following the kind of electoral rulings from the Ghanaian Courts, led by the righthand man of President Akufo-Addo, Justice Anim Yeboah, the party would not relent on its efforts to victory in future elections.
He hinted that it appears any Ghanaian who would resist any operation from the Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP would be seriously brutalized by the section of the country’s security set up; and that would be the order of the day if the NDC would continue to rely on the security agencies the party will fail miserably.
He explained that as part of the NPP’s plans to hold on to power for decades, Alhaji suspected President Akufo-Addo structured the formerly enviable Ghana’s security system to do their bidding.
According to him, gun shots, maiming of innocent electorates, ballot staffing and snatching are well orchestrated plans by the Nana Addo led ruling NPP and its agents to get brute force victory come what may.
Alhaji argued that the removal of the former Electoral Commission, EC Boss, Mrs. Charlotte Osei was the foremost agenda, and the actions of the Nana Akufo-Addo choice of current EC Boss, Jane Adukwei Mensah is affecting any good electoral reforms that would shape the country’s democracy.
“But all her actions innure to the benefit of the NPP and Nana Addo who put her there to do their bidding in all national elections”, he posited.
In view of all these glaring agenda, Alhaji Sherif Abdul-Nasiru, speaking to this portal last Monday, charged the leadership of the NDC to wake up from their slumber and face the storm the NPP is busy creating aheard.
The NDC NEC member further called on the NDC leadership to immediately move the entire headquarters to the Assin North constituency ahead of the By-election.
He sounded that, “the time has come for us to show that we are not women and cowards, we will face any vigilante or NPP soldiers to ensure free and fair elections are held in Ghana”.
He challenged the ‘tyrant’ President Akufo-Addo to send the entire Ghana army on the Election Day, but the NDC shall ensure Ghanaians witness free and fair elections.
To this effect, he warned that the Assin North By-election would not tolerate any lawlessness from the governing NPP this time around. Adding that they would not allow what happened at the Ayawaso West Wuogon By-election to happen again.
“….we are also ready to open fire when they open fire on us, they can’t continue to put the whole country in danger because they think Ghana is for them, they’ve got it all wrong”, he opined.
He stated that, “….the NDC was born out of revolution, we are not afraid of any kind of trouble makers, we will deal with whoever tries to mare our young democracy, not even the old man’s (President Akufo-Addo, 78) sponsored vigilante groups”.
