Ghana’s longest serving Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Professor Kwesi Botchway has taken swipe at President Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo and charged him to use his private resources to construct the National Cathedral.
He also indicated that President Akufo-Addo must build this edifice he claimed he promised God on his person land and hand it over to the State, and that would be realistic enough for every discerning Ghana.
He made this statement in an interview with Nationaltymes.com in Accra in a forum organised by Development Challenge Happy Hour (DCHH) and he challenged the President not to further burden already struggling Ghanaians with any more contributions to build his cathedral.
Prof. Botchway hinted this portal that “I will not contribute my Ghc100 to this Cathedral, no”, he urged Nana Addo to rather prioritised building people’s park where different types of artisans would learn skills.
President Akufo-Addo indicated that prior to elections 2016 he had a private covenant with God to build a Cathedral when he wins the election. And instead, he chose to charged Ghanaians to rather contribute to build this Cathedral for God.
To this effect, Prof Botchway argued that since Nana Akufo-Addo made this purely personal promise to God and not on behalf of the state, he owes it a duty to honour that promise with his private resources and the land.
Nana Akufo-Addo, as a Christian must not use state funds to provide that thanks given edifice to God when the state itself is already burdened financially to complete lots of projects that would benefit Ghanaiansat large, Prof. lamented.
Nationaltymes further gathered from the audience that President Akufo-Addo deliberately wants to sacrifice the schools under-trees and the uncompleted E-Blocks Secondary schools former President John Dramani Mahama started, for his personal Cathedral covenant with God.
The forum under the theme “Consolidating Democracy for Accelerated National Development”, chaired by Alhaji Haruna Rasheed, agreed with Prof. Kwesi Botchway, who honestly stressed that the State has burdened itself with a promise to construct any Cathedral to God.
