The Department of Economics of the University of Ghana, Legon has confered awards to some Economic personalities in Ghana.
President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the late former Vice-President Paa Bekoe Amissah-Arthur were conferred with the award for their sterling efforts towards national development.
President Akufo-Addo and late Vice-President Amissah-Arthur were class of 1967 and 1974 respectively.
Seven (7) other personalities also received similar awards under the theme, “Contemporary Research on Economic Issues in Africa” during the 2nd Department of Economics Alumni Congress and International Conference, which was held at University of Ghana Department of Economics on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.
Amongst these awardees was the Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Kwamina Yedu Addison (class of 1986), confered with the Distinguished Alumni Award by the Economics Department as well.
His award is for his remarkable professional career and contributions to the growth and development of Ghana’s financial sector and the economy.
Other recipients were Anthony Yaw Baah, Secretary General, TUC, Ghana with the class of 1992; Prof. Yaw Nyarko, Director CTED. NYU, class of 1981; Mrs. Abena Osei-Poku, MD, Absa Bank, Ghana Ltd and class of 1994.
Ms. Janice O. James, Senior Economic Advisor. (RJMEC), class of 2000 MA (EPM); Mrs. Yvonne O. Quansah, (BA) Director, Ministry of Financial), class 1989 and Mr. G. K. Tsikata, class of 1972 who doubles as former Head, Department of Economics, UG, were all the recepients of the awards.
The citation that accompanied the award reads; “The Development of Economics, University of Ghana is Pleased to Present You with the Distinguished Alumni Award”.
