Dr. Lawrence Appiah, Founder and Leader of Diaspora Movement based in USA, was surprise to hear Ghana’s Information Minister, Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah argued on Asempa fm, in Accra that President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is not aware of recommendations to remunerate the spouses of President and his Vice.
According to Dr. Appiah, Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah and John Boadu, the Secretary of the governing NPP had the courage to tell Ghanaians that Nana Addo knew nothing about the recommendations to remunerate the first and second ladies.
In a statement sent to Nationaltymes.com in Accra, he stated that “Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah and John Boadu had the courage and shamelessly told Ghanaians that Nana Addo knew nothing about the recommendations”.
“….Oppong Nkrumah made it clear on Asempa vm that Nana Akufo-Addo, the President, didn’t know anything about the recommendations by the Prof. Ntiamoah-Baidoo’s committee and that it was the 7th parliament that approved the recommendations”, he opined.
He indicated that strangely to him, that same evening on Peace fm, also Accra based radio station, John Boadu (JB) was also saying the same thing, which made him (Appiah) had a sleepless night because the two personalities refused to spare Ghanaians the continuous lies.
Dr. Lawrence Appiah explained that President Akufo-Addo appointed a committee headed by Prof. Ntiamoah-Baidoo to review the emoluments for Article 71 office holders and other relevant matters relating to Article 71 office holders.
The committee finished its work and submitted the report to the President and he studied the report and submitted it to the 7th parliament. Parliament approved it and sent it back to the President, who signed it into law.
In spite of this detailed process, “Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah and John Boadu had the courage and shamelessly told Ghanaians that Nana Addo knew nothing about the recommendations. So, can’t these guys credit Ghanaians with some little intelligence?”, he opined.
“…..from what Oppong Nkrumah and JB told us; what kind of President is sitting in the Jubilee House? It is like Ghana doesn’t have a President. Look, a President appointed a committee, signed the recommendations of the committee into law, and yet people want to convince us that the President knew nothing about the committee’s recommendations”, Dr. Appiah bemoaned.
He wants to know what have Ghanaians done wrong to this NPP government at all?
Dr. Appiah was further annoyed when he stressed that, “as we were discussing the illegal and shameful act by the President for changing allowances to salaries for current and former first and second Ladies, and equating them to the salaries of Article 71 office holders, we heard the Minister of Education also justifying why the government spent Ghc68 million to buy just past questions for the final year students of the free SeniorHigh School, SHS”.
He described as unfortunate the claim by the Nana Akufo-Addo Education Minister, Dr. Yaw OseiAdu-Twum that the best investment the government had made on the first badge of SHS students, was to spend GHC68 million to buy just past questions for students and describe that as “best investment”.
To this effect, Dr. Appiah said now the free Senior High School in Ghana has now become past questions.
Dr. Lawrence Appiah of Diaspora Movement quizzed that “so, what are the teachers paid to do? Teach past questions? You see why the President and all his ministers have stopped thinking? I am surprised why parents look on whilst this government destroys the future of their kids. It is amazing the new Ghana we have under Nana Akufo Addo.
