Leadership of Fulbe (Fulani) community across Ghana have accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of deliberate attempt not to recognise them.

This according to them, since President Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo took over the governance of this country, their intention forms part of government’s agenda to rewrite the history of Fulani in Ghana.

At a media briefings held in Accra on last Monday, June 14, 2021, the Acting Executive Director and Convener of African Center for Fulbe (Fulani) Affairs and Security, Dr Gedel Ahmed Mohammed indicated that calls on the Ghana Statistical Service to as a matter of urgency recognize the Fulbe tribe in the on-going Population and Housing Census (PHC) was yet to adhere to.

He explained that the Fulani tribe/community was in existence in Ghana for over 400 years and they have never been discriminated until the Nana Addo led NPP administration took over to power in 2017.

The PHC has started the Census of the houses in the country Of which will include houses belong to the Fulanis.

Nationaltymes.com further noted the Fulanis where being harassed all over before and during 2020 voter registration in Ghana. And no amount of complaint were really taken resulting in disenfranchising a lot.

Dr. Ahmed Mohammed added that the community has been growing in numbers since it was last captured in the 2000 PHC at 300,000 by the statistical service in 2002.

He disagreed with the notion that fulanis are criminals and trouble makers.

With this, he said about 99.95% of its members cut across all sectors of economy contributing to national development.

In an interview with Nationaltymes.com, Dr Gadel Ahmed Mohammed, a Lecturer, hinted that they have ones again petitioned the Presidency, the second lady and other concerned institutions in Ghana to register their displeasure.
