Americans went to the polls on the 3rd of November to elect the 46th president of the United States. This is a ritual that voters in the world’s advanced democracy go through every four years.
It was a campaign dominated by acrimony to say the least. Eventually when voting was over and ballots counted, the Democrat party candidate, Joe Biden, has been chosen over the incumbent president representing the republican party, Donald Trump.
On the 20th of January 2020 when President elect Joe Biden is sworn in as the oldest president of the United States, it is highly probable that his counterpart across the Atlantic somewhere in West Africa precisely Ghana in the person of John Dramani Mahama may have been sworn in earlier on the 7th of January as Ghana’s next president.
Since the inception of the 1992 constitutional rule of Ghana anytime the democrats win political power through the ballot box in America the people of Ghana also choose the NDC to form the next government.
In 1992 when Bill Clinton won the presidential election held in November president Rawlings emerged victorious in the election also held in November.
J. A. Kufour won Ghana’s elections in the year 2000 for the NPP. This was after the victory of George Bush Jr of the Republicans in the same year.
The NDC made a comeback eight years later with President Mills while Barack Obama did it for the democrats in the USA.
Both parties lost power in 2016.
Whilst the NDC is set to benefit from this trend, the NPP is seriously struggling to put itself together under this psychological warfare.
In the 2020 election the similarities between the NDC of Ghana and the Republicans across the Atlantic has quickly put political watchers on their toes waiting for the outcome of the election in December.
Donald Trump and Akufo-Addo come from the eastern part of their respective countries while John Mahama and Joe Biden hail from the north.
On the ballot Akufo-Addo and Trump shared the number one slot. On the other hand Joe and John are number two. Is it celestial?
Think of this. Danquah is to Donald. John is to Joe.
John and Joe were not only Vice Presidents but they are actually bosses to win.
Shallom; Peace.
