The cunning nature of the current Ghana’s Electoral Commission, EC and its Inconsistencies in operations made one of the Civil Society Organisations called ‘Care for Free and Fair Elections Ghana, “CARE” GHANA’ to prompt all the opposition political parties to reject any suggestion by the EC to transmit elections results electronically.
The EC has made major changes in the electoral process as against the lay down ECOWAS/International Protocols for elections in Africa, with the support of contesting President Akuffo-Addo and the formerly respected Supreme Court of Ghana.
To this effect, Ghanaians and the Civil Society Organisations, CSOs in the country appear they have lost confidence in the current crop of the Electoral Commissioners led by Jean Mensah and Bossman Asare due to their Inconsistencies that goes to favour President Akuffo-Addo who appointed them to run the formerly envious EC in Africa.
The governing NPP led by Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo imported Israelis expert in hacking into transmission or data systems in the world to help them in their operations going into 2020 general elections.
In view of this, “CARE” Ghana is calls on all the political parties in the country and key stakeholders to reject electronic transmission of the December 7, 2020 election results.
“CARE” Ghana explained that their experience with the electronic
transmission system introduced in 2016 by the Electoral Commission has
proven not trustworthy which therefore gives enough basis for their call.
They stated that with electronic transmission it is much easier hackers to manipulate election results without trace.
Below Is The Full Statement from CARE Ghana.
REJECT ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION OF ELECTION
RESULTS – “CARE” GHANA TO POLITICAL PARTIES
Care for Free and Fair Elections Ghana “CARE” GHANA calls on all political parties and key stakeholders to reject electronic transmission of the 7th December, 2020 election results.
Our experience with the electronic
transmission system introduced in 2016 by the Electoral Commission has
proven not trustworthy therefore gives us enough basis for this call. It
demonstrated that, with electronic transmission it is much easier to
manipulate election results without trace.
It will interest you to note that in
electronic transmission, election results can be intercepted and manipulate in the process of transmission. Remember that, during the 2016 elections the EC publicly announced that its system of transmission has been tampered with and this delayed the tabulation and declaration of the 2016 election results.
Even though the EC acknowledged that the system was compromised, the EC abandoned it and resorted to manual collation of results. The EC failed to explain to Ghanaians
the circumstances under which its electronic transmission system was
compromised and the measures it has put in place to prevent a recurrence.
Given the failure on the part of the EC to explain to Ghanaians why and how
the system was compromised and what measures it has taken to address
this challenge.
“CARE” GHANA is calling on all political parties to reject
electronic transmission of the 2020 election results to curb the possibility
of hacking and rigging the elections.
Also, due to time constraint the EC will be unable to fully test the system to plug all loopholes to prevent any
attempt to compromise the system and rig the election as claimed by EC in 2016 In addition, looking at the challenges and the difficulties we are experiencing with the Electoral Commission’s new system in the compilation of the new voter’s register, it will be suicidal for political parties and key stakeholders to
allow electronic transmission of results to worsen the already bizarre situation on our hands.
We therefore advice all political parties to ensure that, the Electoral
Commission resort to the manual transmission of results which is foolproof, tried and tested to ensure that we are not pooled by any surprise on 7th December, 2020.
