FORMER VOLTA REGIONAL NDC SECRETAY & NOW REGIONAL MINISTER, JAMES GUNU.

TENSIONS are high among the members of ruling NDC and other groups in South Tongu Constituency following the controversial removal of Romeo Hademe’s name from the final shortlist of vetted candidates for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position.

The unexpected replacement of Mr Hademe’s name has triggered widespread agitation among Assembly Members, traditional leaders, party loyalists, and sympathizers, who are demanding an immediate investigation into what they describe as blatant manipulation by key Volta Regional NDC executives.

Mr. Hademe was amongst the candidates originally shortlisted after a vetting process at the NDC Volta Regional Office in Ho. However, to the shock of many, his name was mysteriously replaced in the final list submitted to the party’s headquarters in Accra,

In a letter signed by Acting Regional Secretary Bright Kwashie Ege; this development has fueled serious suspicions of foul play, with allegations pointing at top NDC regional executives.

Bribery Allegations Surface

Insiders allege that Volta Regional NDC Chairman, Mawutor Agbavitor and the immediate past Volta Regional Secretary, James Gunu, now the Volta Regional Minister took bribe  to remove Mr. Hademe’s name after his was amongst the shortlisted first 3. However,  the Regional Chairman, Mr. Agbavitor and now Hon. Regional Minister, Mr. Gunu were originally not part of the vetting from the .

VOLTA REGIONAL NDC CHAIRMAN, MAWUTOR AGBAVITOR.

According to the insider, his name was deliberately replaced with another candidate handpicked by these afforestationed personalies executives. This raises serious concerns about transparency and fairness in the selection process.

“This is a clear case of manipulation for selfish interests, and we have enough evidence to prove it,” a party loyalist fumed. “We will expose those behind this injustice”, the insider lamented.

Traditional Leaders and Assembly Members Demand Answers

The controversy has sparked an uproar, drawing the attention of traditional leaders who are calling for urgent intervention. Chiefs and elders in the area have expressed strong dissatisfaction, condemning their exclusion from the selection process and warning that any attempt to impose an unapproved candidate will be fiercely resisted.

Meanwhile, several Assembly Members have threatened to reject any nominee whose selection is deemed illegitimate. “We will not be complicit in this injustice,” one Assembly Member declared. “If this issue is not resolved transparently, we will reject any imposed candidate.”

Pressure Mounts on NDC National Leadership

As anger spreads across the constituency, party faithful are calling on the NDC national leadership to intervene immediately. Many believe that failure to address these concerns could deepen divisions within the party and weaken its support base ahead of future elections.

To this, all eyes are now on the NDC headquarters in Accra to see whether the leadership will take decisive action to restore trust and ensure a fair and transparent selection process for the South Tongu MCE position.
