THE PRIVATE Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has extended its warm congratulations to Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu and Shamima Muslim on their respective appointments as Minister of State in charge of Government Communications and Deputy Government Spokesperson.

In a statement signed by PRINPAG’s President, Andrew Edwin Arthur and Executive Secretary, Jeorge Wilson Kingson, the association expressed confidence in the duo’s ability to enhance government-media relations, given their track records in engaging with journalists.

“The records of Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu and Madam Shamima Muslim in dealing with journalists are well known and PRINPAG is confident that their vast experience will be brought to bear in addressing the myriad of challenges confronting the media landscape in Ghana,” the statement read.

PRINPAG emphasized the need for the new appointees to promote transparency, accountability and constructive engagement with the media. The association further urged them to champion media-friendly policies that ensure the safety and welfare of journalists, allowing them to operate without fear or intimidation.

“We encourage Hon. Kwakye Ofosu and Madam Shamima to welcome constructive criticism and uphold the principles of press freedom, which are crucial in strengthening our democracy,” PRINPAG stated.

Additionally, PRINPAG called on the government to ensure that its communication team remains accessible and responsive to journalists while fostering collaboration to address the challenges within the media industry.

The association expressed hope for initiatives that would support capacity building for journalists, improve access to information and create an enabling environment for media practitioners to thrive.
