IN A HEARTFELT open letter to Honorable Maxwell Lukutor, the newly elected Member of Parliament for South Tongu, prominent citizens and community leaders have expressed their aspirations and expectations for the constituency’s development under his leadership.

The letter, penned by Prince Atsu Dagadu, a student leader and zonal coordinator for VORSAG-UEW, along with Agboni Nicholas Kelvin of CoverGhana, highlights both the pride and hope the people of South Tongu have in their representative.
A Vision of Progress
Congratulating Hon. Lukutor on his victory, the authors described his election as a moment of pride for the constituency.
They commended his proactive stance on critical issues such as alternative power supply investments and road construction, which are seen as vital to South Tongu’s growth.
The writers emphasized the constituency’s significant role in the nation’s agricultural sector, particularly in rice, sugarcane, cassava and vegetable production. They highlighted the potential of the NDC’s Agro-industrialization policy to expand agriculture and transform South Tongu’s economy, calling for targeted investments in rice and cassava production.
Inspiration from North Tongu
Drawing inspiration from neighboring North Tongu, the letter praised Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for his work in establishing a cassava processing plant that has opened new markets for farmers. The authors urged Hon. Lukutor to follow suit by prioritizing training workshops for farmers, providing access to agro-chemicals and machinery and attracting investors to establish large-scale cassava plantations.
“These initiatives would not only support the processing plant but also create jobs in both the agricultural and industrial sectors, reducing unemployment and fostering economic growth,” the letter stated.
Education and Industrialization
Another key area addressed in the letter was education. The authors proposed the establishment of a South Tongu scholarship scheme to support students pursuing higher education, particularly in agriculture, science and vocational training.
They called for collaboration with philanthropists and stakeholders to create a robust scholarship fund, addressing the constituency’s skills gap and advancing a knowledge-driven economy.
The letter also highlighted South Tongu’s abundant clay deposits as an untapped resource for industrial development.
The authors urged Hon. Lukutor to explore investments in the ceramic industry, envisioning a future where South Tongu becomes a hub for ceramic production, creating jobs and boosting local industries.
Strengthening Party Structures
The letter also touched on the importance of restructuring the NDC at the constituency and branch levels. The authors emphasized the need to prioritize academic achievement, competence and exposure in the selection of party leadership.
This, they argued, would ensure that local governance is driven by capable individuals who can effectively serve the people.
A Call for Inclusive Leadership
Concluding their message, the authors expressed their hope that Hon. Lukutor would emerge as a leader for all citizens of South Tongu, transcending partisanship and embracing innovative solutions to address the constituency’s challenges.

“Once again, congratulations, Honorable Maxwell Lukutor. We look forward to your leadership and the positive impact it will have on our beloved South Tongu,” the letter concluded.
Community Optimism
The open letter reflects the optimism and aspirations of South Tongu’s citizens as they rally behind their representative.
With a focus on agriculture, education, industrialization and effective governance, the constituents are hopeful that Hon. Lukutor’s tenure will bring about tangible development and upliftment for the district.
