IN A LANDMARK move to streamline governance, the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has issued the “Civil Service (Ministries) Instrument, 2025,” under the Civil Service Act of 1993 (P.N.D.C.L. 327).

This effort was in lieu with President John Dramani Mahama’s quest to fulfil one of his promises to cut down and realign some ministries to a smaller sized government.

This Executive Instrument establishes 23 ministries from 30 within the Civil Service to enhance efficiency and better serve the nation.

The instrument, which was officially signed on January 9, 2025, marking the beginning of a more focused approach to governance comprised of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing climate change and adopting sustainable energy solutions.

Similarly, the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations signals a drive toward digital transformation and technological progress.

Other ministries include Finance, Health, Interior, Defence, and Education, alongside specialized portfolios like Fisheries and Aquaculture, Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, and Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

This restructuring aims to align national priorities with modern challenges, fostering growth, inclusivity and innovation.
