THE NATION’S BUILDER, PREZ. JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA.

MOHAMMED AMIN LAMPTEY, an ace sports journalist and a member of the NDC communications team, has outlined President John Dramani Mahama’s bold plans to transform Ghana’s sports industry.

Speaking passionately about the future of sports under Mahama’s leadership, Amin Lamtey highlighted key initiatives aimed at restoring the nation’s lost glory in the sector.

Blueprint for a Sports Revolution

Mr. Amin Lamptey revealed that Mahama has consulted extensively with stakeholders and professionals in the sports sector to identify challenges and draft solutions. These consultations will inform a comprehensive blueprint for transforming sports in Ghana, with the ultimate goal of regaining international recognition.

Sports University in the Pipeline

One major initiative is the proposed expansion of the Winneba Sports College, established by the late President Jerry John Rawlings, into a fully-fledged Sports University.

Mr. Amin Lamptey, speaking with John Quatey, on Metro Evening Sports, explained that, this upgraded institution would produce highly skilled sports managers and administrators to uplift the sector.

Infrastructure Development, Key to Transformation

The ace Sports Journalist, and Spokesperson for Ghana Boxng Association (GBA), Mr. Amin Lamptey emphasized that the development of modern infrastructure is critical to nurturing young talents.

He proposed the construction of standard stadia in all 16 regional capitals, ensuring they are multipurpose to accommodate various sports. “Sports contribute significantly to the GDP, and serve as a unifying force for Ghanaians. President John Dramani Mahama  understands this and is determined to bring sports back to life,” he stated.

Reviving Ghana’s Boxing Glory

Highlighting the historic success of Ghanaian boxing, the GBA Spokesperson  Mr. Lamptey called for the revival of the Sports alongside other lesser-known disciplines. He mentioned Ghana’s celebrated boxing champions, including D.K. Poison, Azuma Nelson and Ike Bazooka Quartey, as examples of the country’s potential.

“Boxing marketed Ghana ahead of football, and we need to bring back that spirit,” Lamptey remarked, adding that leaders like I.K. Acheampong and J.J. Rawlings prioritized sports development, resulting in international recognition.

Refurbishment of Abandoned Facilities

Mr. Amin Lamptey further stressed the need to refurbish abandoned sports facilities such as the Kaneshie Sports Complex, upgrading them to meet international standards.

A Passionate Leader for Sports

According to Lamptey, Mahama’s passion for sports makes him the ideal leader to steer this transformation. He argued that the Sports Ministry must be led by someone with the expertise and enthusiasm to drive meaningful change.

“John Mahama understands the unifying power of sports and is committed to reviving the sector for the benefit of all Ghanaians,” Lamptey concluded.

With these ambitious plans, Mahama’s vision promises to revolutionize sports in Ghana, creating opportunities for young talents and restoring the country’s international reputation.
