GHANA’S DEMOCRATIC journey took another significant step forward as John Dramani Mahama was sworn in as the country’s president in a grand ceremony attended by dignitaries from across the globe.
The event, which marked Mahama’s return to the presidency, highlighted Ghana’s unwavering commitment to peaceful democratic transitions — a hallmark of its Fourth Republic, established in 1993.
In his address, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama underscored the importance of this milestone, reflecting on the nation’s ability to sustain a thriving democracy over the decades.
“Today, we renew our democratic spirit, ensuring that Ghana continues to be a beacon of hope for the African continent,” he said.
He also paid tribute to the legacy of past leaders, including Jerry John Rawlings, who oversaw Ghana’s transition to a multi-party system and John Agyekum Kufuor, who led the nation in its first peaceful handover of power in 2001.
“This peaceful exchange of leadership strengthens our democratic fabric and reaffirms our faith in governance built on the will of the people,” Mahama added.
The event saw the attendance of numerous heads of state, including Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as Ghanaian leaders from across the political spectrum, symbolizing national unity.
