HER LADYSHIP CHIEF JUSTICE GERTRUDE ARABA TORKORNOO.
H. E. PRESIDENT JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA,

IN THE WAKE of the National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) decisive victory in this year’s elections, Famous Kwesi Kuadugah, a prominent member of the party’s National Culture, Tourism, and Creative Arts Committee, has called for urgent judicial reforms.

He emphasized that the independence, accountability and impartiality of the judiciary have been compromised under President Addo Dankwa Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, which he described as the “most corrupt” in Ghana’s history.

Kuadugah argued that, restoring public trust in the justice system is vital for the success of the NDC’s ambitious governance agenda, including the much-anticipated “Operation Recover All Loots” (ORAL).

According to him, without judicial reforms, the party’s efforts to deliver on its promises and reset the country’s governance framework would be in vain.

PROF. JANE NAANA OPOKU-AGYEMAN,  FIRST FEMALE VICE-PRESIDENT OF GHANA.

“The judiciary’s independence and integrity have been tainted, threatening not just the rule of law but also the public’s faith in Ghana’s justice system,” Kuadugah said. He stressed the need for a well-functioning judiciary as a cornerstone for national development, economic growth and foreign investment.

He further suggested that, some judges, whose actions have raised concerns about accountability and impartiality, should be shown the exit through legal means. “Strengthening accountability mechanisms within the courts is crucial for restoring public confidence,” Kuadugah pointed out.

FAMOUS KQESI KUADUGAH.

Reflecting on the conduct of the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court, during the recent election period, he noted that these events underscored the urgent need for reforms. He warned that the current judicial system poses a significant risk to Ghana’s development and the NDC’s resetting agenda.

“A stable and predictable legal environment is essential for attracting foreign investment and ensuring businesses thrive. Judicial reform must, therefore, be the first step in resetting the country’s institutions and delivering on the expectations of Ghanaians,” he argued.

The call for judicial reform aligns with widespread public sentiment, as citizens demand greater accountability and fairness from the judiciary. With the NDC’s government set to take office, many are hopeful that these reforms will be prioritized to ensure justice and equality for all.
