CIVIL SOCIETY group, Team Saglemi Not For Sale has issued a press statement urging President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to intervene in the ongoing controversy surrounding the Saglemi Housing Project.

In the statement signed by the group’s convener, Nana Otu Darko, Team Saglemi congratulated the President-Elect on his electoral victory and expressed hope that he would prioritize addressing the economic and political challenges left behind by the outgoing Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

The group highlighted its role in preventing the sale of the Saglemi Housing Project during the previous administration, describing the move as an attempt to “sell off Mahama’s legacy to their cronies.”

Team Saglemi raised concerns about the decision to hand over the stalled 5,000-unit affordable housing project to a private entity. According to the group, while they are not against public-private partnerships, the profit-driven nature of the private enterprise involved could undermine the original purpose of the project – providing affordable housing to Ghanaians.

“There are growing concerns that many Ghanaians will not be able to afford housing in the Saglemi Complex once completed,” the statement read.

The group also accused the outgoing government of concealing the project’s contractual terms. “We are particularly alarmed by the lack of transparency surrounding the agreement,” the statement continued, urging the President-Elect to halt ongoing construction until a detailed investigation is conducted and the terms are made public.

Team Saglemi Not For Sale emphasized the need for immediate action to protect the integrity of the project and ensure it serves its intended purpose.

The group concluded by reaffirming its commitment to advocating for affordable housing solutions and urged the incoming administration to uphold transparency and accountability in the management of national resources.
