THE NATIONAL Coordinator of Volta Diaspora Caucus (VDC) of the opposition NDC, Bassel Ahiable has disputed the allegation that the caucus is a tribalistic group.

He denied the allegation during an interview with Nationaltymes.com at inauguration of their Ayawaso West Wuogon branch in Accra.
Mr. Ahiable explained that the Volta Diaspora Caucus (VDC) of the party is like any other associations, but the (VDC) is focused on attaining it’s main goal of assisting Ewes living outside Volta Region.

According to him, VDC has realised that most of the Ewes living outside Volta region need supports in areas of skills or formal education.
He indicated that during political activities like voter registration, Ewes living in certain areas in some regions are being discriminated upon and harassed. Mr. Ahiable cited the Volta Diaspora Caucus (VDC) went to assist in the retrieval of outboard motors belonging to Ewe settlers ceased during the 2020 centralised voter registration in and around Banda in the Bono region.

2020 centralised voter registration at the Electoral Commission (EC) district offices was politically manipulated by the President Akufo-Addo led NPP government, in the bid to deny settlers, mostly the Ewes from registering to secure voter ID Cards.
These settlers, he said cross rivers with their boats to the centralised voter registration centres at district offices which are far from them though within Banda in the Bono Region.

He also noted that the Ewes do not benefit much in the Volta region anytime the NDC is in power and the NPP would definitely not mind them. And it’s appearing as if their political contributions to the party is not recognised.
