THE ON-GOING Akosombo Dam spillage to reduce the water level at the dam has been wreaking havoc to the people and hotels and schools along the banks of the Volta lake at South Tongu Municipality.

This year’s dam spillage by the Volta River Authority (VRA) has overwhelmed the people, which negative impact kept increasing.

Following the sad situation the people of South Tongu are going through, the Hon. Member of Parliament for the areas, Wisdom Kobena Mensah Woyome, Hon. D.C.E, Seth Agbi and representatives from the Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Directorate, Naval Training School, the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service toured some flood-affected areas within the South constituency/Municipality over the week.

SOUTH TONGU MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, SET AGBI.

The Comboni hospital mortuary is also submerging gradually. To this, the Comboni Mortuary authorities are pressing on all the bereaved families to come over to convey their dead bodies to mortuaries for safety. Or buried their royals at once.

Houses were also flooded seriously rendering a lot of people homeless and schools closed down to safe lives; whilst others look on as their farms and properties were taken over by the water.

The situation is so dire that the team touring the flooded areas asked the affected persons to move to the high grounds to prevent further damage from the dam spillage.

According to Nicholas Aklorbortu, a teacher in Sogakope, hinted National Tymes that the Education Directorate is considering some alternatives that will keep school children safe in these dangerous times while the Health Directorate is also prepared for any eventuality.

Mr. Aklorbortu said the MP and D.C.E promised to engage the authorities from the V.R.A for some support for the affected persons and communities; however the MP donated about 20 Wellington boots the people at Alikekope to easy movements in the flood.

He further hinted that the team will continue with their visitations to the other affected areas in the sense of making a case for solutions.
