The Paramount Chief of Mpuasu-Japekrom Traditional Council, Okatakyie Amoah Aturu Konkonkyea II has appealed to the chiefs and people of Jaman South Traditional Area to smoke peace pipe to facilitate rapid development of the area.
According to him, the protracted chieftaincy disputes have retarded development in the area hence the call for peace.
Okatakyie Amoah Aturu Konkonkyea II explained that, according to court rulings on the protracted litigated disputes, Japekrom is the landlord and must be recognized as such. This, he said would not undermine or warrant an evacuation or eviction of anyone in the area.
He was speaking at the Munufie Festival celebration at Japekrom in the Jaman South Municipal of the Bono Region yesterday. The festival which is celebrated annually by the people of Mpuasu-Japekrom and it’s surrounding communities was themed: “Adapting Culture Towards Sustainable Environmental Practice”.
Touching on galamsey activities in the country, Okatakyie Amoah Aturu Konkonkyea II said, it is a menace and a national canker destroying the fortunes of country. He described it as a threat to the nation and urged government to act swiftly in dealing with the canker.
The Paramount Chief said, the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has all it takes to stop galamsey operations in the country. He therefore urged him to exercise his authority as a president to halt the evil practices (galamsey activities) to safeguard the country.
The Jaman South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Andrews Bediako stated that he will make sure the municipality becomes peaceful as it was years ago.
He explain that , he would not allow criminals to destroy the peaceful atmosphere that the people of Jaman South are currently enjoying. He therefore appealed to the people to be united and work hard to develop the municipality.
