The Greater Accra regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE, Mrs. Lucille Hewlett Annan, has joined several high-profile personalities to participate in the Green Ghana Tree Planting Exercise dubbed “The Green Ghana Project”.

The regional Director together with the Ada West District Director of NCCE, Philemon Boni and representative of the Ada West District Assembly among other NCCE staff, planted the tree at the premises of the Sege Catholic Church.

This serves as the Commission’s way of contributing to this key national exercise aimed at protecting the ecosystem against adverse degradation.

The Green Ghana Project is a Government of Ghana initiative of preserving and protecting the environment and forests by planting five (5) million trees.

Speaking after the tree planting exercise, the Greater Accra regional Director of the, NCCE, Mrs. Lucille Hewlett Annan, encouraged Ghanaians to embark on this worthy course and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting Government’s objective of ‘greening’ our environment.

She indicated that aside the environmental preservation value of this exercise, this project will impact positively on the health of individuals.

Mrs. Hewlett Annan, stressed the need for Ghanaians to take climate action seriously to stem the tide of climate change in the world adding that; climate change demands climate action from each and every one.

The Ada West District Director of NCCE, Philemon Boni, stated that the NCCE as mandated by the constitution is doing marvellously well in fulfilling its obligations and must be commended in educating the populace about their civic rights and responsibilities and also joining hands in greening the country.

He stated that the Ada West NCCE started that project since 2014, but most of them had been destroyed saying it was for that reason that Ghanaians are being encouraged to plant trees, since they would be of immense benefit to humanity.

Mr. Boni pointed out that the lives of human beings are prolonged due to the existence of trees, for which reason all stakeholders must join efforts in the protection of the environment.
