YOU CAMPAIGNED IN MORE THAN HUNDRED DAYS AMIDST COVID-19 PANDEMIC, BUT YOU ARE USING POLICE TO INTIMIDATE CITIZENS WHO WANT TO USE JUST A DAY TO PROTEST AGAINST YOUR FAILED GOVERNMENT

Statement by President of Action Movement Youth Volunteers (AMYV).

We, a Non-profit Organisation called Action Movement Youth Volunteers (AMYV), has join a clarion call by over five thousand social media users calling on the President to Fix The Country.

President Nana Addo is in his fifth year as president but has no achievement to show of. If you are not a family member or a friend to the President, you are not part of those to enjoy the national cake.

Million of graduates are idle on the street who need job, fuel increment is at it ascendancy, poor road networks, hijacking state resources, among others are the hardships we are going through.

Reading on the news the attempt by the Ghana police service to stop the protesters, to us, we feel is a big insult to the beauty of our democracy.

Ghana police service is protecting the interests of the President, they are not thinking about the hardships Ghanaians are going through just to make the ends meet. The justification of the Ghana police service to stop the protesters is baseless and must be condemned.

Stopping Ghanaians from protesting against your government shows how weak, intolerance and autocratic your leadership is and must be condemned. Ghanaians want to embark on a social protest in order to exert influence, that is, to demand change for a perceived dissatisfaction or grievance. Feeling of failure on the side of government led to social protest because because we are angry and social protest provide us with the opportunity to voice to the government those feelings.

As citizens, Ghanaians will be extremely glad if the following questions below are answered by the Ghana police service:

1. Amidst the awake of covid-19, National Identification Authority (NIA) went ahead with the Ghana Card registration for more than a month, where was the Ghana police service then?
2. NPP held their Parliamentary Primaries amidst covid-19, was Ghana police service in Ghana at the time?
3. Amidst the threatening pandemic, Electoral Commission of Ghana was able to register for new voter ID card used more than thirty days. Where was the Ghana police then?
4. On December 7, a crowded citizens were at the registration centres for more than twelve hours to vote amidst covid-19 pandemic. Where was Ghana police service then?

Now, what has changed and disappointed citizens cannot protest against the sitting president less than four hours?
