The Chairman of the Central Committee of the 31st December Revolutionary Commemoration, Dr. Benjamin Kumbour has for the first time fired a salvo at the Electoral Commission, EC and called on the International Community to take active interest in what he describes as the drama unfolding in the country.

According to him, what is happening in Ghana under President Akuffo-Addo currently erodes the gains made in our democratic advancement.

Dr. Kumbour who is a close friend to late former President Jerry John Rawlings was speaking at the 39th edition of the 31st December Revolution Commemoration in Accra on Thursday under the theme: “Sustaining the Values of 31st December Revolution: The Legacies of H.E. Jerry John Rawlings”.

Moments of wreath laying, he further indicated that the peace and stability Ghana is enjoying currently was made possible by late JJ Rawlings hence it behooves on all and sundry to protect it by speaking out and condemning the atrocities and illegalities creeping in our body politics by the Akufo Addo led NPP government.

“Never have we ever experienced an election results which have been corrected, changed, amended and only God knows what’s next”, Dr. Kumbour stressed.

Touching on the legacies of late former President Rawlings, he said all the social infrastructure in the country were initiated under the 31st December Revolutionary regime.

“The only honor we can give to Jerry John Rawlings is to begin to see the relevance of the 31st December revolution”, Dr. Kumbiur emphasized.

“……the passing of Jerry Rawlings finds us in a very complicated, bizarre never happened before political cross-roads”, he added.

The former Deputy Health Minister further stressed that the legacy of JJ Rawlings will continue to live on even though he is no longer with us.

On his part, former President John Dramani Mahama indicated that the 31st December revolution gave birth to Ghana’s democracy hence the need to recognize it as such.

He paid glowing tribute to the man he described as his mentor and said “the legacy of Rawlings and for that matter 31st December revolution can not be forgotten”.

He later assured Ghanaians that he will ensure that justice is served for those who lost their lives in the just ended elections.

The National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo stressed that the 2020 election is one of the well executed elections by the Party, saying that the party will therefore not sit down for the will of the people to be subverted.

He argued that even though attempts were made by the Akufo government to put a stumbling block on the ways of the NDC by closing down radio stations linked to the party, the party came out of the 2020 elections impressively.

“Later, wreaths were laid as well as the perpetual flame was also lit at the commemoration by Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo and Dr. Benjamin Kumbour with the support of Dr. Nuamah Donkor, one of Rawlings’ right-hand man.

The Cadres of the NDC and the country’s market women also laid wreath in honour of those who contributed to the success of the 31st December Revolution.

Display by Young male and female Cadres; Notable Personalities graced the occasion including, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, Ade Coker, Ambassador Victor Gbeho, Hon.
