MADAM VICTORIA DZEKLO,  SOUTH TONGU DCE.

Nat’l Tymes News Desk

THE MEMBER of Parliament for South Tongu, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, has urged beneficiaries of the Aquaculture Community Commercialisation Programme (AquaCCop) to fully embrace the initiative, describing it as a major opportunity to create jobs, improve incomes and boost fish production in the municipality.

The advice was delivered on his behalf by the South Tongu Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, during a community engagement programme organised by the Fisheries Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFAD) for selected beneficiaries in the constituency.

The engagement formed part of government’s efforts to promote sustainable aquaculture, strengthen food security and support the growth of community-based commercial fish farming enterprises.

Hon. Dzeklo conveyed the MP’s apologies for his inability to attend the event due to another official assignment, but assured participants of his continued support for programmes aimed at improving livelihoods in the constituency.

Addressing the gathering, she urged beneficiaries to take the programme seriously and actively participate in all training and implementation activities. According to her, the knowledge and practical skills they will acquire could become a reliable source of income for them and their families.

She said the success of the initiative would depend largely on the commitment of beneficiaries and encouraged them to work closely with officials of the Fisheries Commission throughout the programme.

Hon. Dzeklo noted that AquaCCop is not only intended to increase fish production but also to empower participants to establish sustainable aquaculture businesses capable of creating employment for other members of their communities.

Officials of the Fisheries Commission briefed participants on the objectives, implementation arrangements and expectations of the programme. They assured beneficiaries of continuous technical support to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative.

The Commission expressed confidence that the programme would contribute to local economic development by equipping participants with the skills and resources needed to venture into commercial aquaculture while helping to improve food security and household incomes in the South Tongu Municipality.

The AquaCCop initiative is one of the government’s interventions aimed at expanding Ghana’s aquaculture sector, promoting entrepreneurship and supporting sustainable economic growth through increased fish production.
