Nat’l Tymes News Desk

THE PARLIAMENTARY Candidate (PC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has declared that the people of the constituency deserve far more development and support than they have received over the years.

Speaking at a charged mini-rally at Nima-Michigan near Frankies Chop bar, Baba Jamal said Ayawaso East has remained loyal to the NDC since the start of Ghana’s Fourth Republic in 1993, yet the area continues to lag behind in development. “NDC has never lost in Nima, but the people have not received what they truly deserve,” he told the crowd.

“I Am a Nima Boy”

Lawyer Baba Jamal surprised many when he pointed to the very house in Nima-Michigan where he lived as a teenager after moving there at age 13 to stay with his uncle. He shared memories of studying the Qur’an while attending school through to university. His message was clear: he is not an outsider. He is one of them — a proud Nima boy who understands the struggles and the potential of the people.

Proven Record of Development
Responding to critics who claim he did little as former Member of Parliament for Akwatia in the EasternRegion, Baba Jamal listed major projects completed under his leadership, including:
School blocks
CHPS compounds
Market facilities
Culverts and drainage works

He also revealed that he facilitated recruitment for many young people into Ghana’s security services during his tenure.

One of his major interventions was solving Akwatia’s severe water crisis. Through his initiative, expatriates in Qatar contributed over $100,000 to fix the problem, bringing relief not only to Akwatia but also nearby communities in Kade. According to him, these achievements helped the NDC reclaim the Akwatia seat after one term of NPP leadership.

A Unifier Within the Party

Baba Jamal won the NDC primaries with 32 votes to become the party’s candidate for the March 3, 2026 by-election. He has appealed to supporters of his former contenders to unite behind the party.

He recalled that whenever he lost previous primaries, he returned to support the late MP, Mac Nasser Mahama Toure, as a sign of loyalty and commitment to party unity.
“If you support others, you will also be supported,” he said, quoting the Qur’an.

Investing in Women and Youth

Baba Jamal emphasized that women are the backbone of every economy. In 2024 alone, he supported women in Ayawaso East with over GHS 2.5 million as a revolving fund to help them grow their businesses and care for their families.

For the youth, he plans to train at least 100 young people annually in employable skills. He believes these skills could even open doors for international job opportunities.

Education and Image Transformation

He also proposed establishing a secondary technical school in Nima to equip young people with practical skills if secured any available piece of land. According to him, this would help fight the negative stigma sometimes attached to residents of Nima when seeking employment.

LAWYER BABA JAMAL MOHAMMED AHMED.

“Ayawaso East has many institutions that can employ our youth as part of their corporate social responsibility,” he added, promising to ensure such institutions contribute about GHS 50 million in development support to the area.

“Choose Your Own”

Lawyer Baba Jamal urged constituents not to be deceived but to elect someone they can proudly call their own. “Whether you voted for me or not during the party primaries, love Nima and support the NDC so together we can transform Ayawaso East,” he concluded.
