STUDENTS of Salaga Senior High School were given a rare educational opportunity on Friday, December 12 2025, when they participated in the 2025 National Public Speaking Competition held at the Parliament House of Ghana in Accra.

HON. HAJIA ZUWERA MOHAMMED IBRAHIMAH.

The students, who were accompanied by a staff member of the school, Madam Milatu Tahiru, were received by the Member of Parliament for the Salaga-South Constituency, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah. The visit formed part of a broader learning experience aimed at enhancing students’ public speaking, critical thinking, and civic awareness.

Salaga Senior High School qualified for the national competition after emerging winners of the Savannah Regional Public Speaking Competition, thereby earning the right to represent the region at the national level.

The competition was organized under the auspices of the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament and brought together students from six senior high schools across the country.

Held under the theme “Sexual and Reproductive Health of the Adolescent Child,” the competition provided a platform for students to research, analyze, and articulate key issues affecting adolescent development. Participants demonstrated strong communication skills and a growing understanding of public health, youth advocacy, and responsible citizenship.

At the end of the contest, Sunyani Senior High School emerged as the overall winners, while Salaga Senior High School was adjudged the Most Promising School, a recognition that highlighted the students’ academic potential and commendable performance at the national stage.

Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah congratulated the students for their discipline, confidence, and academic excellence. She noted that such educational initiatives not only build students’ speaking abilities but also expose them to national institutions and democratic processes.

In response to a request for support to offset transportation and logistical costs, the Honourable Member of Parliament donated GH¢3,000 to the school. She further reiterated her commitment to improving educational infrastructure within the Salaga-South Constituency, including the development of ICT facilities, science laboratories, classroom blocks, and student accommodation at Salaga Senior High School and T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School.

The experience at Parliament offered the students valuable lessons beyond the classroom, reinforcing the importance of education, civic engagement, and informed dialogue in national development.
