HON MCE ANDUL-GANIYU IBRAHIM, AYAWASO EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY.

Nat’l Tymes News Desk

THE AYAWASO East Municipal Assembly has launched a bold urban agriculture drive aimed at expanding agro-processing, supporting small producers, and improving sanitation across the municipality.

The initiative was announced during the municipality’s recent 41st Farmers Day celebration, where the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, highlighted the Assembly’s renewed commitment to strengthening food production in densely populated urban areas.

Assembly Rolls Out New Urban Agriculture Projects

As part of the new plan, the Assembly is introducing two flagship ventures:

Catfish production and processing

Fruit juice production

These projects are expected to create jobs, increase household incomes, and support the municipality’s growing agro-processing value chain.

Hon. Ibrahim, affectionately known as Mallam Fari, revealed that additional efforts will focus on poultry production at the household level, value addition, and micro-enterprise support to help residents—especially women and youth—build sustainable livelihoods.

To complement these local initiatives, the Municipality is also implementing government-aligned programmes such as:

Nkoko Nkitinkiti Project, which supports local poultry development

Yeredua Vegetable Development Project, which promotes modern urban vegetable farming using innovative, space-efficient methods.

The MCE said these programmes will help residents venture into agriculture even with limited land, making Ayawaso East a model for inventive urban farming.

Sanitation Week Kicks Off

The Assembly has also introduced a Municipal Sanitation Week, aimed at improving hygiene and beautifying the community. The clean-up campaign is receiving strong support from corporate and community partners.

Key contributions include:

Ghana Insurance Association – two tricycles for sanitation operations

Enyo Mart – sanitation equipment

Buildway Construction Ltd. – two double-decker fridges

Nima Mahmudu Market Association – GHC 2,000.00 to support the programme

The Assembly expressed deep appreciation to these sponsors for their commitment to a cleaner Ayawaso East.

Farmers Honoured for Outstanding Contributions

During the event, farmers who demonstrated exceptional dedication and innovation received special recognition. Hon. Ibrahim applauded their hard work and resilience, noting that agriculture remains a vital pillar of the municipality’s economic growth.

He pledged the Assembly’s continued technical and logistical support to ensure that more residents benefit from the emerging agricultural opportunities.

A Vision for a Greener Ayawaso East

Hon. Ganiyu Ibrahim concluded by calling for unity and community participation, stressing that the future of Ayawaso East depends on sustainable agriculture, economic empowerment, and improved sanitation.

The Assembly says it remains committed to helping residents build stronger livelihoods through modern urban farming and productive partnerships.
