THE BOARD Chairman of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC), Dr. Richard Asiedu, has called on Ghanaians and Africans living abroad to take advantage of new investment opportunities in Ghana’s extractive sector.

He made the appeal at the Diaspora Reset Engagement Conference (DREC 2025) held in Birmingham in the United Kingdom, UK.

Speaking on the theme, “Connecting Global Talent to Local Transformation,” Dr. Asiedu said the contribution of the diaspora to Ghana’s economic development has become more important than ever.

He explained that Ghana’s extractive industry—especially iron ore, steel production, and related mineral value chains—is entering a new stage of growth, backed by strong regulations, detailed geological data, and improved government incentives.

He said GIISDEC is leading reforms aimed at ensuring transparency, building investor confidence, and promoting sustainable mineral development. These, he noted, make the sector an attractive option for diaspora-led investments, partnerships, and knowledge transfer.

“Ghana’s iron and steel industry is on the verge of significant growth,” he said. “We have the right resources and policies. What we need now is strategic investment from our diaspora, who understand the long-term goals of national development.”

Dr. Asiedu highlighted several areas where diaspora investors can make meaningful contributions. These include geological exploration, iron ore processing, steel manufacturing, infrastructure development in roads and rail, and technology and skills transfer.

PROF. RICHARD KOFI ASIEDU,  BOARD CHAIRMAN, GIISDEC.

He praised diaspora professionals for their global experience and innovation—qualities he said are essential to turning Ghana’s mineral resources into industrial progress.

The conference brought together policymakers, business leaders, experts, and development advocates from across Europe. Many participants described Dr. Asiedu’s message as timely and aligned with DREC 2025’s goal of mobilising global talent for development at home.

“The diaspora has always been a strong support system for Ghana,” Dr. Asiedu added. “We are inviting you to help shape the country’s next industrial chapter. The extractive sector is open, transparent and ready for investment.”

He assured prospective investors that GIISDEC is ready to provide technical guidance, smooth processes, and strong institutional support to ensure that diaspora investments thrive and remain sustainable.
