THE MEMBER of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, Hon. Abdul-Rauf Tubazu, the Municipal Chief Executive Rudolph Collingwoode-Williams, and the Deputy GETFund Administrator, Alhassan Saliu, have embarked on a tour of stalled GETFund school projects across the municipality.

The visit, aimed at assessing the current state of the abandoned buildings, is part of a renewed push to revive projects that were started as far back as 2015 but were left incomplete without explanation under the previous administration.

Municipal Education Director, Alhassan Saliu, expressed deep concern about a four-storey classroom block that was started and structurally completed within a year, yet has remained untouched for nearly a decade. “This is a solid building that has been left to rot. It’s a disservice to the taxpayers and the children,” he told journalists.

At the Kotobabi Experimental School, the Head teacher described the impact of the neglect. “We have produced great Ghanaians here, including legal luminary Tsatsu Tsikata. Yet today, we do not even have enough classrooms for our children,” he lamented.

He revealed that multiple letters had been written to the Municipal Directorate requesting the completion of the buildings, but there had been no response or action over the years.

Parents also shared their frustration. One parent noted that due to the lack of nearby classroom space, children are forced to walk long distances to access basic education. “By the time they reach school, they are tired and sweating. It affects their ability to learn,” he said.

Speaking to the media, MP Abdul-Rauf Tubazu was hopeful that the situation was about to change. He disclosed that GETFund has now committed to completing the abandoned school blocks, saying, “I have engaged the authorities persistently, and I’m glad GETFund has agreed to act.”

The MP emphasized the importance of providing adequate infrastructure to ensure quality education. He expressed optimism that by this time next year, most of the neglected projects would be completed.

“This is part of the reset agenda, and we are committed to delivering for the good people of Ayawaso Central,” he added.
