Ghana’s Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, is in Italy attending the 8th Agrilevante Fair, an international agriculture exhibition held from October 7 to 11 in Bari.
The event brings together ministers, policymakers, and private sector players to showcase modern farming machinery and technologies, with a focus on the Mediterranean region.
Speaking at a side event on agro-food partnerships, Hon. Opoku called for stronger collaboration between African countries and Italy to promote sustainable agriculture and food security.
He stressed the importance of science, soil, and water management in improving food production, saying:
“Without food, no one can survive. That’s why food production is a duty. But we must produce food in ways that protect our natural resources for the future.”
The minister encouraged shared learning and investment in research and innovation, describing it as key to transforming agriculture.
Ghana’s participation is expected to open doors for investment in mechanization, irrigation, and agro-processing.
