IN A BID to promote inclusive governance and transparency, the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly has wrapped up a three-day stakeholder engagement focused on its proposed 2026 Fee-Fixing Resolution and development concerns.
The meeting, which ended on Friday, October 3, 2025, brought together shop owners, mechanics, and residents for an open dialogue.
Held under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), the meeting aimed to encourage community participation in decision-making, particularly around proposed fees, rates, fines, and penalties.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Rudolph Collingwoode-Williams, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and contributions from participants.
He noted that fees have not been adjusted in the past six years, and many stakeholders supported the proposed increments—provided the funds are used for visible improvements.
Concerns raised included poor drainage, burst pipes, and the need for a designated space for mechanics. Participants called for proper documentation of payments and urged the Assembly to expand the tax net to include informal workers like street mechanics.
The Municipal Director, Ishmael Nana Ogyefo, advised stakeholders to always demand receipts for their payments and pledged to support land acquisition to relocate all mechanics including roadside workshops.
The MCE encouraged continued collaboration for the municipality’s development.
