THE MEMBER of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso Central, Hon. Abdul-Rauf Tubazu, has called on traders at the Mallam Atta Market in Accra to support plans to upgrade the market into a modern facility as part of the government’s proposed 24-hour market.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement involving market leaders/traders, traditional authorities, and other concerned groups, Hon. Tubazu said the John Mahama-led NDC administration is committed to providing decent, safe, and well-equipped trading spaces for Ghanaians.

He explained that the redevelopment of the Mallam Atta Market will be carried out in phases to ensure that trading activities are not disrupted.

The upgraded market will include key infrastructure such as a school for traders’ children, a police post, fire service station, information centre and a lorry park.

Hon. Tubazu, who was with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ayawaso Central, Rudolph Collingwood Williams, emphasized that these facilities are part of efforts to make the market functional for 24-hour operations.

“This is not just a facelift; it is about transforming the Mallam Atta Market into a modern trading centre that can operate around the clock. This means more job opportunities for both skilled and more of unskilled youth in and around the area,” the MP said.

ABDUL-RAUF TUBAZU, MP, AYAWASO CENTRAL.

He assured the traders and the community that the project would be carried out with their concerns in mind and encouraged them to fully cooperate for the benefit of all.

The 24-hour market plan is part of a broader vision by former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC to boost economic activities, create jobs, and support small businesses across Ghana.
