TRADITIONAL leaders across the Greater Accra Region are being urged to rally behind the Ga Mantsɛ in his campaign to make the teaching of Ga-Dangme languages compulsory in schools within the region.

In a statement issued in Accra, Solomon Nii Afutu Quartey, Grace Stool Secretary, expressed concern that, even in Ga-Dangme communities, many children are not being taught their native languages. He lamented that schools often prioritize languages from other regions, leading to the gradual erosion of Ga-Dangme linguistic and cultural heritage.

“This trend is alarming,” the statement read. “Our language is a core part of our identity. If we continue to neglect it, we risk losing the essence of who we are as a people.”

He emphasized that unity is critical at this time. “Now more than ever, we must put aside our internal differences and stand together. If we remain divided, we risk losing not only our languages but the very roots of our existence.”

The statement called on all Traditional Rulers in the Greater Accra Region to issue directives within their jurisdictions to ensure that schools actively promote and prioritize the teaching of Ga-Dangme languages.

“This call goes beyond language,” Nii Afutu Quartey noted. “It is about protecting our history, asserting our cultural identity, and safeguarding the future of our children. Let us come together and defend what rightfully belongs to us.”
