THE Inspector-General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has reinstated Dr. Benjamin Kojo Agordzo into the Ghana Police Service and promoted him to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP).

Dr. Agordzo, who had gone on retirement after being acquitted of high treason in January 2024, was recalled and elevated during a promotion ceremony held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Police Headquarters in Accra. He was among 19 senior officers promoted to COP and DCOP ranks.
His reinstatement corrects what many viewed as a delay in justice, especially considering that his course mates had moved up while he was sidelined due to the treason case.
Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who oversaw the ceremony, called for fairness and transparency in future promotions and urged senior officers to mentor their juniors. On his part, the IGP Yohuno noted that timely promotions boost morale and reward deserving service.
Dr. Benjamin Kojo Agordzo was charged with high treason in 2021 over an alleged coup plot under the Akufo-Addo administration.

He was acquitted in 2024. Early 2025 President John Dramani Mahama appointed him Head of Human Resources at the National Security Council.
