The Nungua (LekMA) Hospital in Accra has received a significant donation of medical supplies, equipment, and pharmaceuticals from the 14th Chinese Medical Team to Ghana, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and deepen bilateral relations between Ghana and China.

The donation supports two major initiatives, the Minimally Invasive Surgery Project (laparoscopic procedures) and the Beautiful World Charity Project, both aimed at enhancing patient care and medical efficiency at the facility.

At a brief but impactful ceremony, Ghana’s Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, expressed appreciation to the Chinese government and its medical delegation for the gesture.

He asserted that the donated items would go a long way in improving diagnostic and treatment services, particularly in surgical and pharmaceutical care.

“I urge the leadership of Nungua (LekMA) Hospital, under Dr. Akua Gyimah Asante, to ensure that this equipment is utilized efficiently and maintained diligently for better health outcomes,” he advised.

Dr. Akua Gyimah Asante, Superintendent of Nungua Hospital, noted that the support would enhance the hospital’s ability to deliver safer surgical procedures, reduce recovery times, and improve overall patient satisfaction.

She added that the donated medicines would help ease pressure on drug supplies and strengthen continuity of care.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, underscored the long-standing medical cooperation between the two countries.

He revealed that since 2009, China has deployed 14 medical teams to Ghana, involving over 100 professionals who have not only provided healthcare but also contributed to the training of Ghanaian staff.

“This donation, though modest in quantity, reflects our enduring commitment to Ghana’s health sector and the strong bond between our two nations,” Ambassador Tong said.

The ceremony concluded with the formal signing of certificates to officially transfer the donated supplies, marking another milestone in Ghana-China health diplomacy.
