ALBERT KWABENA Dwumfour, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), is under intense scrutiny following allegations of financial mismanagement and abuse of office.

Reports suggest that Mr. Dwumfour has solicited and received significant sums from government and private entities on behalf of the GJA without providing proper accountability to the association’s executive members.

These allegations have reportedly caused unrest within the GJA, with some executive and floor members considering legal action against Mr. Dwumfour to compel transparency and accountability.

In a related development, the Youth for Media Freedom (YMF), a media advocacy group, has petitioned the GJA’s National Executive Council to suspend and investigate Mr. Dwumfour over allegations of blackmail, coercion, and abuse of power.

The group claims that Mr. Dwumfour exploited sensitive information about high-profile individuals for personal gain, thereby compromising the integrity of Ghana’s media and eroding public trust in the GJA.

Additionally, the GJA has faced criticism for governance failings under Mr. Dwumfour’s leadership. The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) issued a statement threatening to delist the GJA for non-compliance with statutory requirements, including failure to submit annual financial accounts and membership updates.

These developments have raised concerns about the leadership and transparency within the GJA. Stakeholders are calling for immediate action to address these issues and restore confidence in the association’s governance.

As of now, Mr. Dwumfour has not publicly responded to these allegations. The situation continues to develop, and further updates are expected aheaf of upcoming GJA Elections as more information becomes available.
