PRESIDENT JOHN Dramani Mahama has pledged to reignite Ghana’s economy and resolve the persistent power outages, known locally as “dumsor,” that have plagued the nation.
Addressing the challenges and broken economy inherited from the previous administration led by Akufo-Addo/Dr. Bawumia, Mahama reiterated his commitment to steering the country back to stability and growth.
“We are assuming office at a critical time in our nation’s history,” Mahama stated, highlighting the pressing issues within the energy sector. He assured Ghanaians that proactive measures are being implemented to avert potential power shortages and ensure a reliable electricity supply.
During his previous tenure, Mahama took decisive actions to address the energy crisis, implementing measures that stabilized the country’s power supply. He criticized the former administration for neglecting the energy sector, leading to infrastructural challenges and that return power outages.
Mahama’s administration has already taken steps to prevent further outages by arranging alternative fuel supplies during maintenance on the West African Gas Pipeline, a critical source of fuel for Ghana’s thermal power plants.
In addition to addressing the energy crisis, President Mahama is focused on economic reforms. He has expressed intentions to renegotiate aspects of Ghana’s $3 billion IMF rescue package to better reflect the country’s realities and reduce economic hardship.
