THE DEPUTY Minister for Defence, Hon. Brogya Genfi, on behalf of his boss, Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has supervised the official handover of command at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra.

The ceremony marked the transition of leadership from the outgoing Commandant, Major General Richard Addo Gyane, to the newly appointed Commandant, Air Commodore David Anetey Akrong.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Genfi commended both officers for their service, stating that the ceremony was a symbol of the Ghana Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, discipline, and smooth institutional transitions.
He noted that the event reflected the core democratic values that underpin Ghana’s peace and security architecture.

“The Ghana Armed Forces have once again demonstrated what it means to ensure continuity and stability through a dignified transition process,” he posited.
The Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Centre, named in honour of the late UN Secretary-General, continues to play a strategic role in peace and security training across the continent, and leadership transitions such as this underscore its institutional resilience.

The new Commandant, Air Commodore Akrong, is expected to bring his wealth of experience to strengthen regional and international peacekeeping partnerships under Ghana’s leadership.
