THE NEWLY appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, has commenced her maiden working tour of the Western Region with a bold commitment to drive investment growth, enhance value addition and champion job creation through a 24-hour economy.

Dr. Awusi, accompanied by Deputy CEO (Operations) Mr. Apau Wiredu Lateef and other top GFZA officials, visited several licensed Free Zone Enterprises (FZEs) to assess operations, identify key challenges and explore investment opportunities.

DR. MARY AWUSI, CEO, GHANA FREE ZONES AUTHORITY,

The tour included stops at Yaeric Company Limited in Abura, Axim – a wholly Ghanaian-owned, multi-million-dollar enterprise; Marco Polo Tile Group Ghana Limited in Nyankrom, Shama; Plot Enterprises Company Limited, a Ghanaian-Ivorian cocoa processing firm in Anoe, Sekondi; Jintao Sanitary Ware Ghana Limited in Eshiem and Chemsolv, a producer of chemical products for export across Africa and beyond.

At Yaeric and Marco Polo, management highlighted critical raw material shortages – rubber and clay – as bottlenecks affecting production.

In response, Dr. Awusi reaffirmed her commitment to the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s transformative vision of a 24-hour economy aimed at boosting local productivity, import substitution and export-oriented growth.

“My mission aligns fully with the President’s agenda to create jobs and ensure value chains operate seamlessly around the clock. We are not just assessing challenges – we’re offering actionable, sustainable solutions to keep Ghana’s Free Zones vibrant and competitive,” she said.

The companies welcomed the assurance of support, emphasizing the need for swift intervention to maintain momentum in export-led industrialization.

The visit also served as an opportunity for the GFZA to scout for new investment leads, building on its mission to position Ghana as a top destination for global investors.
