THE MAMPRUGU Youth Association (MAYA) has issued a stern warning to the government and Kusasi factions in the Bawku conflict: any attempt to arrest or remove Bawku Naba, Naa Sheriga Alhaji Seidu Abagre, will be fiercely resisted.
At a press conference held today, MAYA described the recent Kusasi demands for the arrest of Naa Sheriga as “baseless, provocative and a direct attempt to destabilize the peace process” in the conflict-prone Bawku area.
The youth group reaffirmed the legitimacy of Naa Sheriga’s enskinment by the Nayiri, King of Mamprugu and denounced any challenge to his authority as illegal and insulting to longstanding tradition.

“This is not a matter for public debate or tribal sentiment – the Court of Appeal has already ruled in Naa Sheriga’s favour. Any action to arrest him would be contempt of court and a violation of his rights,” the statement emphasized.
MAYA further criticized what it called an “ethnic profiling and economic blockade” campaign allegedly spearheaded by Kusasi youth, accusing them of barring access to markets, attacking commuters and shutting down state infrastructure within Mamprusi-dominated areas. They warned that such actions are undermining efforts by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to mediate peace in the area.

Reiterating their commitment to peace under the leadership of the Nayiri, MAYA called on the state to uphold neutrality and ensure justice is applied without fear or favour.

“Our commitment is absolute and our patience should not be mistaken for weakness,” the group concluded, urging the government to act firmly to restore law and order.
