IN A STRATEGIC move to bolster its communication and public engagement efforts, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has appointed seasoned media practitioner and public administrator Abdul-Wahab Jawando as its new Public Relations Officer (PRO).

With nearly two decades of experience spanning media, public administration, political mobilization and youth development, Jawando brings a wealth of expertise to the role. Prior to his current appointment, Mr Jawando served as Senior Manager and Head of Onboarding and Enrollment at the Artisan Directory Unit of YEA, where he played a pivotal role in streamlining youth employment initiatives nationwide.

Mr. Jawando’s background is as impressive as it is diverse. He is a certified microfinance practitioner, a trained journalist and holds an MBA in Finance from the Methodist University College, Ghana, in addition to a BA in Economics and Sociology from the University of Ghana.

His media credentials include his long-standing role as a Morning Show Host and Head of Sports at Marhaba 99.3 FM and his recent position as Head of Sports and Producer at Gaskia TV, where he led popular programmes like Taskar Gaskia, blending civic education with vibrant community outreach.

Beyond the studio, Jawando is deeply embedded in union and civic life. He currently serves as the 1st Trustee of the Public Services Workers’ Union – YEA Division, ensuring sound financial stewardship and governance across union operations.

Widely respected for his dynamic leadership, strategic thinking, and grassroots mobilization, Jawando is expected to bring a fresh, engaging voice to YEA’s public interface, amplifying its programmes and strengthening its connection with Ghanaian youth.

In accepting the appointment, Jawando reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability and youth empowerment, stating that “effective communication is not just about speaking – it’s about listening, learning and leading.”

His appointment signals a new era for the YEA as it works to expand opportunities, improve service delivery and create meaningful employment for young Ghanaians across the country.
