DR. MARY AWUSI, newly appointed CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to regional industrial growth during a high-impact, two-day official tour of the Ashanti Region.

Accompanied by Deputy CEO Mr. Apau Wiredu Lateef and senior officials, the visit aimed to strengthen ties with Free Zone Enterprises (FZEs), understand operational challenges and inspect strategic development sites.

The delegation began their mission at the proposed site for the Ashanti Technological Park in Boankra, envisioned as a future hub for innovation and economic transformation.

They then visited Premium Foods Ghana Ltd., a leading FZE involved in cereal export and global humanitarian supply chains including the World Food Programme and USAID. Dr. Awusi praised the company’s efforts and encouraged use of GFZA’s Aftercare Desk for support, also teasing upcoming business expos to enhance FZE visibility.

Day one concluded with a tour of MIRO Forestry and Timber Products in Drobonso. Dr. Awusi lauded the firm’s robust corporate social responsibility projects, such as building schools and providing boreholes and reminded all enterprises of the obligation to install GFZA-branded billboards at their sites.

On April 4, the delegation continued to Logs and Lumber Ltd., addressing concerns like import duties and the gradual transition to Special Economic Zones (SEZs). The company’s Managing Director highlighted impressive growth thanks to the FZE framework.

The final stop was OLAM Ghana, where discussions revolved around value addition in cocoa processing and employment opportunities. Dr. Awusi pledged continued support and emphasized GFZA’s open-door policy.

The visit underscored GFZA’s strategic vision to bolster enterprise development, promote exports, and position the Ashanti Region as a competitive industrial zone.
